Citizen involvement in security - which makes it more of a priority

Safety at work is to save lives and ensure the quality of life, how many people suffer needlessly accidents at work? There is another problem because security is often used by employers and unions, and people in general, as a vehicle to highlight other related issues, especially issues of industrial importance.

What is most important for security? And 'reducing the cost of accidents? No, the focus is wrong. It 's the people conforming to a set of rules? And 'the altruistic notion of' saving lives', as mentioned earlier? What is the real purpose of security?

A lot of people talk about and it seems easy, but there's a world of work and time to invest in the creation of the magical culture of safety, but it just is not so easy to operate safety. One of the world's leading experts on the psychology of security is E. Scott Geller. He has collaborated with the famous convert to safety, victim burns Charlie Morecraft, to produce "Docker Doctor encounters", and discuss the keys to actually making security "more of a priority."

Security is about empowerment. This is to ensure that we all take responsibility for security, each of us, fixing things as they crop up-take individual responsibility and ownership for the problem. This is difficult because it requires effort and motivation, especially in the absence of a reward for responsible behavior. When we can do things without reward, we are on track to be resilient attitudes and property safety.

It is about more people with a "what can I do to make a difference?" mentality. The more people that say this, the greater is the likelihood of a critical mass "give birth" to change the culture of safety based on an active care model. Geller is amazed when management "only to get excited when someone gets hurt security." On top of this, the security is too often speaks in negative terms. This is not psychology, good people are much more in tune with the times for the success of avoiding bankruptcy. Geller says that we need "success" seeking attitudes for success in safety management.

Behavioral safety has a little 'transformed in recent years by focusing on people's behavior as well, for a slightly sweeter and more genuine security "people-based". It includes a combined approach of a person based on behavior-based safety and security. And 'more holistic and representative of the reality of dynamic work, in particular people within it.

Morecraft has a different, though not less effective, approach when compared with Geller. His story shakes all, a person who has lost practically everything in a terrible accident, work, livelihood, health, and family ... the list goes on. He says: "There is no rocket science safety, is all about family!" Geller follows him with a disturbing story of his discovery of the cancer that has shocked all day in a new "reality". He reports that "we are more afraid of getting cancer of us to have an accident at work." He said that irony was the social support has got to have cancer, this type of support is almost unheard of when someone suffers a serious accident at work.

Morecraft travels the world preaching the message of safety, talking about victims of severe burns. This makes it because of pure truth, the victim is not going well, we always change lives for the worse. He is sick of being "hell" with these people, but he knows that the reality is they need him, and they need hope. The frustrating thing is how you give them hope, when in reality there is little there?

If there is a face to a security problem, it is possible that there is an emotional response and that helps. The reason for the emotional response to the Sept. 11, in their view was simply that there was a "face" to the tragedy. Why is not there more outrage over the 40,000 who die on U.S. roads every year, or the countless thousands that suicide? They believe that this is simply because there is no face to face and not toll the silent person in absolute agony, that simply can not exist for a moment longer, to end it.

We must return to the 'people element' if security is to be considered more than simply a priority that can be "re-priorities". Safety must become a value, such values do not change. It is not rocket science to safety, only a few basic principles and solid around with the emotions and the creation of effective (l '"I can do this / that will work" attitude) in the minds of those who are most affected workers. Manager and senior management are the keys to this change.

Safety is not rocket science-it is just people. The real purpose of security is that it enables people to make change. They want to be sure: Their lives and livelihoods and families depend on it!

Thanks to Dr. E. Scott Geller and Charlie Morecraft and their vision for the safety of people around the world....
