What Is A Memory Pen
Pendrive memory is a data storage unit that is characterized by using flash memory technology as a storage system and connect to other devices through a USB port. Thanks to its small size, resistance to shock, scratches and dust, no noise, high capacity and easy handling, memory flash drive has become the storage device and data transport preferred by users, having replaced the magnetic units optical and floppy disks, CDs and DVDs.
Features
A memory flash drive, also known as USB memory, USB key, USB flash drive, memory stick, flash drive or just pen, basically uses three technologies:
Storage technology with flash memory: memory flash drive uses flash technology, a type of EEPROM nonvolatile memory whose main advantages are great resistance to shock and temperature extremes, small size, high access speed, low power consumption and silent operation due to lack of mechanical elements. On the other hand, has several disadvantages such as high cost per MB, relatively low capacity and a limited number of write cycles and deletion. USB Port: USB flash drive memory uses a USB interface specification for connecting peripherals to a computer and also provides power. USB port has now shifted to other serial or parallel interfaces and has become the standard connector. MSC USB standard: memory flash drive supports USB communications protocol MSC (Mass Storage Device Class USB, USB Mass Storage Device), which provides an interface for the storage units are connected to the computer or other USB devices, so the operating system treats memory like a flash drive hard drive, can read and write by simply connecting the USB port without drivers.
Applications
Pendrive memory has numerous applications such as backup, transporting personal files, music storage and Videoma, marketing promotional purposes, safe storage of encrypted data, systems management, execution of an application or operating system.
Usage Tips
Here are some tips about how to use flash drive memory:
Despite the resistance of the memory flash drive, avoid the bumps, drops, humidity, magnetic fields, dust and extreme heat. Before removing the memory pendrive USB port is convenient to communicate to the operating system ("Unmount Volume" on Linux, "Safely Remove Hardware" in Windows or "Eject" on Mac), because sometimes the data is not written in the time but through a write cache, so that if the unit is removed before the system save the contents of the cache may lose data or even damage the device. Is to disable the Auto-restart ("autorun") in Windows to prevent pendrive memory automatically start when you insert a specific file, in order to hinder the spread of viruses and Trojans that use this system to boot.
